With Gratitude…
Many thanks to all parish councillors of Holy Cross who, after nearly ten years of good works in our parish and community, completed their term and would like new people to take up the responsibilities. We gratefully remember their good works and thank them.
The information about the new Parish Pastoral Council will be given in due time.

Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE)  Award: We are proud to announce that one of our parishioners BRENDA EMMANUS made a recent visit to Buckingham Palace having been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours. The award for services to Broadcasting and Diversity was presented to Brenda by the Princess Royal. Brenda has been an Arts, Culture and Entertainment Correspondent for The BBC for over 17 years as well as holding a number of Trustee and Board roles for arts and Creative Industry organisations. We at Holy Cross offer our congratulations.

Holy Cross Parish Food/Household Items Bank – Second Sundays  This weekend a trolley will be in each Church porch during 6.30pm vigil Mass and before 10am Mass, and in Hartley Hall Library during the YSVP coffee morning after 10am Mass, for donations of food and household items and Parishioners who may be finding it hard to make ends meet to take what they need. Parish organisations have suggested examples of possible donations, including breakfast cereals, coffee, tea, washing powder, toilet rolls, sanitary towels, washing up liquid, tinned goods, biscuits etc. Carrier bags are also welcome. Any items remaining at the end of the coffee morning will be given to people in need known to SVP or for Parish groups or local organisations to use.  Ideas, suggestions, offers of help to [email protected]      Thank you.

Knights of Columba The Young People’s Seminar will take place at Hainsley Hall, Leeds from 21st to 24th July.  Please see the poster at the back of the church, which gives further details of their invitation to young Catholic people aged 16 – 23.  Their contact number is 0141 883 5700 if you would like to book a place.

Gospel Reflection  In this weekend’s readings and psalm, the prevailing theme is that of light: We are the light of the world; our light breaks forth like the dawn; our light shines in the darkness; our light reflects generosity and justice. Good stewards know they are the lamp, and Christ is the flame that, through them, illuminates the earth. They know that they carry Christ’s light in their hearts, and let it shine through their words and deeds. What are we doing to shine Christ’s light on the hungry, the homeless and others most in need of God’s mercy? How do we exercise good stewardship over the light of Christ that burns within each of us?
