STEWARDSHIP: This Lent we will be looking at our personal TALENTs and GIFTS, with a particular focus on asking what new or unused Talent or Gift do I have that I can offer for the good of our Parish, or the wider community. Next Sunday our Lenten Cross will encourage us to make a personal pledge to use one of our Talents /Gifts for the good of others.
REFLECTION: "Words! Words! Words!" cries Hamlet. Human speech can deceive as well as enlighten. It rarely captures all what is within us. Charged with the responsibility of spreading the gospel, the disciples of Christ must be vigilant over their hearts, for each one speaks from the abundance of the heart. By means of the word we build together the community of mutual support. We who wish to bring others to the gospel, must first have lived it ourselves. Black marks on white paper become the word of God only when people can read it in our lives. In an age when empty words are multiplied, Christian stewards remember that Jesus left them a life to imitate rather than mere doctrines to memorize. A life without words is worth more than words without life.
Hartley Hall Bookings and Enquiries: Please note that all bookings and enquiries should be emailed to this address:[email protected]
For Daily Lenten Reflections please go to http://www.southwarkdsc.org.uk and complete the simple form. This year's reflections will focus on the readings for the Sundays of Lent. Each day there will be a different reflection:
SEASON OF LENT
During Lent we Focus on;- Prayer helps us to grow closer to God.
Fasting is a form of Penance. Catholics between 18 and 60 are obliged to Fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Catholics who have reached the age of 14 are obliged to abstain from eating meat on Ash Wednesday and the Fridays of Lent.
Almsgiving is a practical way to express our love for God by expressing our love and generosity for others. Acts of charity are a basic part of Christian life.
When we share our TIME, TALENT and TREASURE, with people in need we are acknowledging that God is the source of our many blessings.
Ash Wednesday: Masses will be at 9.15 am and 7 pm.   After the evening Mass you are very welcome to go into Hartley Hall to enjoy a bowl of soup. All monies raised are in aid of Mother Teresa’s Helpers.
