The Catholic Education Service
acts on behalf of the Catholic Bishops Conference to support Catholic
Education. They have a strong and positive working relationship with the
British and Welsh governments, sharing the aims of high academic standards for
all, and increased parental choice. There are over 2,000 Catholic schools,
academies and colleges in England and Wales, educating over 800,000 students.
The Catholic Church and the Church of England together provide one third of all
the school in the country. The CES is the chief negotiating and advisory body
on matters affecting all aspects of Catholic education, and it also provides
financial assistance for school transport in rural areas.

A Prayer of
Thomas Merton
My Lord God I have no idea where I am going.
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
Nor do I really know myself,
and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.
And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing.
I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road
I do not see the road ahead of me.
I cannot know for certain where it will end.
Nor do I really know myself,
and the fact that I think that I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.
But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you.
And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing.
I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road
though I may know nothing about it.
Therefore will I trust you always
though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.
I will not fear, for you are ever with me,
and will never leave me to face my perils alone
Therefore will I trust you always
though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death.
I will not fear, for you are ever with me,
and will never leave me to face my perils alone
STEWARDSHIP
REFLECTION
St. James
teaches that those who are perceived to be poor in the eyes of society are the
ones who have been chosen to inherit the Kingdom of God. Indeed, we are saved
because of our poverty and redeemed out of our need, not because of our
material wealth or achievements that the world finds praiseworthy. St. James
also suggests that we are stewards of others, especially the poor and it is how
we respond to the poor and needy that will define our relationship with the
Lord. Can you identify the poverty, whether spiritual or material, that is in
your own life? How can that “poverty” be redeemed? As stewards of others, how
do we respond to the poverty that exists right in our own parish?
