Legion of Mary Visit [Peregrinatio Pro  Christo] Report by John B. McLaughlin [Team Leader from Ireland]

The Parish  Priest, Fr Antony, has experience of the Legion of Mary and consequently knew  what he was doing when he agreed to have a Peregrinatio Pro Christo Team of  eight (4 brothers & 4 sisters) work in his Parish - June 30th to July 6th  2019. The Parishioners rallied behind the Project, hosted the Legionaries,  shared the preparation of a lunchtime meal and one Parishioner provided  dinner daily throughout the Project.

The Morning  Meeting was held at 8.10am followed by Mass at 9.15am. The daily routine was  typical of that, followed by Peregrinatio Teams with a morning session from  10.15am to 1pm, afternoon session 2.30pm to 5.30pm and the evening session  6.30am to 8.30am after which the Notes were written up.

We visited in  excess of 2500 houses with a 50 per cent 'no reply' rate which is a  relatively good return. The percentage of Catholic folk met was low -  2.5 per cent of total calls, 5 per cent of  actual contacts with non-practising Catholics coming in at 3.5 per cent of  total calls, 7 of actual contacts. A very small number of five thought that  they might possibly one day be interested in finding out more about the  Catholic Faith with only one possibly prepared to consider it in the autumn.  We distributed up to 700 Miraculous Medals.

Primary School Visit: Two of the Team visited the local Primary School  and met separately with the two final year classes. They spoke simply and  briefly about the Legion of Mary, the work being undertaken in the Parish and  the Miraculous Medal. They recommended the Miraculous Medal Power Point  Presentation and they gave the Medal to 80 children.

The weather was brilliant. The Team members were  committed. The Priest and Parishioners were very hospitable and worked hard  to make the visitors feel wanted and comfortable. The meals were top class  with plenty of food to be consumed. The hosts and hostesses made family  sacrifices to make their guests feel at home. Thanks to all concerned. We pray  that some of the seeds sown will contribute to a good harvest. The Shepherd  of the Flock deserves it.

First Holy Communion 2020: Application forms for preparation of the First Reconciliation and Holy Communion are now available at the back of the church, or on the parish website. Closing date 9th September 2019
