Sacrament of the Sick

Thank you to all who made the anointing of the sick mass so special for so many of our vulnerable, sick and housebound members of our parish this weekend. A big thank you to Gwen Williams for making so many delicious cakes for the tea party afterwards, the drivers and Karen, Pat and Peter for providing the wonderful music.

Third Thursday Time

This Thursday, 18th July, drop in to our welcoming café in Hartley Hall between 5.30 and 8.30pm, to look after your mental well being with a choice of yoga (6pm), singing (7.30pm), stilling (8.10pm) plus all our usual activities - book swap, massage, arts and crafts, drinks and snacks, board games and friendly company. All local people over 16 are very welcome.

Gifts and Talents: Still thinking about offering your gifts/talents, please speak to one of the welcomers  or Fr Antony, at the end of Mass.  There is a contact sheet on the notice board at the church entrance, you can leave your details here and someone will be in touch to discuss further.

Annual Parish Walk 2019: Thank everyone for supporting the parish sponsored walk for Ghana, those who walked, Gwen for doing the admin, the UCM for providing the hospitality, Gillian for writing out the certificates, Angela for setting up, the school for allowing us to use their Hall and Joe Baptiste for great chicken and initiating the walk which has become an annual event since it started about 7 years ago. Although numbers were down this year it was a lovely sharing of communion for the good of others. It’s not too late to give, if you sponsored someone, please get the money in by the end of school closing or if you wish to donate, place your donations in an envelope marked Ghana and give to Kath O’Sullivan or Lesley Allen.

Tackling Local Holiday Poverty

Low income families can find school holidays stressful, and may struggle to find money for basic needs. This summer, we hope that the Parish will support three activity days for local families. A meeting will be held this Monday, 15th July, 6pm in Hartley Hall to organise the days, and you are all warmly invited to attend to bring your ideas and offers of help. Thank you.

Parent and Toddler Group is in need of 2 volunteers to assist from September.  The group meets on Mondays (9 – 11.30am) and Wednesdays (9 – 11.30am) term time only.  This is a very well established group and not only benefits Holy Cross but also the wider community.  Eileen would love to keep this great group open but sadly without the assistance of volunteers the group will have to close.  Those interested, please kindly contact Fr Antony.

Appointment of the Eleventh Archbishop of Southwark The Holy See has announced that Pope Francis has appointed Bishop John Wilson as Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Southwark. His Episcopal Installation will be celebrated in St George's Cathedral, Southwark, on 25th July 2019 at 12 noon. All are welcome.

Requiem Mass: Please pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of Clifford Aristide. His Requiem Mass will be here on Thursday 25th July at 12.30pm.  Please also pray for Catherine Ndeley who dies recently. We also pray for these families at this difficult time.

Miss Maureen Nolan who died on 6th May, has left a legacy of £500 to the Holy Cross RC Church for the wish that the gift be applied for the provision of a new noticeboard on the exterior of the church. We appreciate her good will and pray for the peaceful repose of her soul.

Christ the King Emmanuel (Blackheath) are looking to employ a part-time Lay Chaplain.  Please see the poster on the notice board at the back of the church for further details or vist the website www.ctksfc.ac.uk/83/vacancies.

Pray for the sick: Let us pray for the sick including Mariam Philomin, Charlie Hyam, Rose Calver, Agatha Lewis, Elizabeth Goba, Florence Nosgobie, Gala Lobo and Ann Whitington.  To include anyone’s name kindly contact Lesley Allen.

Today is Sea Sunday and the collection will go towards the Catholic charity AoS, which benefits seafarers worldwide. We thank you for your contribution. Second Collection: Today there is a second collection for the Apostleship of the Sea (AoS).

The Holiday Season: Many people will be going away on holiday. If you are a reader or Lay Minister of Communion, please remember to plan ahead and arrange a substitute for your absence. Many Thanks.

New to the Parish? If you have not done so, it would be really helpful you could please fill in the form at the back of the church giving your name and details for Parish records? Thank you.
