Sunday 10th April 2022 : Palm Sunday

You can find the Readings from here

HOLY WEEK— Holy Week is the most sacred time in the liturgical year. It is a time of blessing and a time of cherishing God’s salvation for us all. This week in history changed the world. From Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday, there were many events that are vital to our faith, including the Institution of the Eucharist, the Passion of Jesus, and His Resurrection from the dead.

Holy Week, particularly Christ’s Passion and Death, is a great reminder of God’s Love for humanity.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (paragraph 604) says: “By giving up his own Son for our sins, God manifests that his plan for us is one of benevolent love, prior to any merit on our part: “In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the expiation for our sins.” God “shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.”

After two years of troubles and worries due to the Pandemic we are now able to celebrate Holy Week in a worthy manner. In our parish, we have arranged special times for prayer, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Reconciliation [Confession] and so on.

The Sacrament of Confession is a great gift given to us to experience God’s forgiving and unconditional love. There will be many priests hearing confession in our parish for three days after the 7pm Mass. Please make use of this opportunity to prepare yourself to celebrate the Paschal Feast in a worthy way. Please be an apostle to your family members and friends by bringing them to Church at this most blessed time of the year. I wish you and your family a blessed and grace-filled Holy Week.

Fr Antony

Please take a copy of the Newsletter home with you - please do not leave it in the church. Thank you.

  • 2nd Collection: On Friday, after the Celebration of the Passion of the Lord, there will be a retiring collection for the Holy Places. The places connected with Our Lord's Passion have always been centres of veneration and pilgrimage. This Good Friday collection is sent for their upkeep, and to help maintain Christian schooling in the area.

  • Good Friday Walk of Witness: This year we begin the Good Friday Walk of Witness commemorating the Lord’s Passion by praying the Stations of the Cross through the roads of Catford beginning from St Andrews to St Laurence via Holy Cross from 9am. When the procession reaches Holy Cross church, we shall also pray the Mid-morning Prayer of the Church. We need four Cross bearers from our parish. Please join.

  • CHILDREN’S CHOIR AT HOLY CROSS We are now in training to have a children’s choir in our parish. Many thanks to Rachael Wibberley and Francisca Dunbar who came forward to help support our children in singing to the Lord. They are going to sing for the first time at the Easter Sunday 9:00am Mass. If you are still interested in your children joining them, please contact either Rachael or Francisca at [email protected] Rehearsals on Saturdays at 11:30 am

  • That hand sanitiser is used by everyone attending the Church.

  • Concerning face masks, some form of face covering will be required in most public indoor venues, including places of worship. However, exemptions exist for various reasons: legitimate health reasons, as has always been the case.

  • That there is good ventilation and air throughput in the building; in this case, because of climatic conditions, please do wrap up warmly when coming to the church as we may need to leave doors open.
