Installation of the Most Reverend John Wilson: We are pleased to inform that the Diocese intends
to live-broadcast the Installation of the Most Reverend John Wilson as
Archbishop of Southwark from St George's Cathedral next Thursday, 25th July
2019. The aim is to enable each parishioner to engage with this important new
beginning for Southwark.
The broadcast will take place via the RC Southwark YouTube Channel. If you are not able to join this event in person, you are welcome to tune in from 11.50 am on the day (the actual service will commence at 12 noon). Baptism Preparation
Sessions: The next session is on 27th July 10am
-11.30am in Hartley Hall. Please ensure you have completed and returned a
Baptism Application form before that date.
Parent and Toddler Group is in need of 2 volunteers to
assist from September. The group meets
on Mondays (9 – 11.30am) and Wednesdays (9 – 11.30am) term time only. This is a very well established group and not
only benefits Holy Cross but also the wider community. Eileen would love to keep this great group
open but sadly without the assistance of volunteers the group will have to
close. Those interested, please kindly
contact Fr Antony.
Family Fun days – for Families
Once schools break up, the summer holidays can be a very long and isolating period for families. To help families, Holy Cross and St Andrews are running 4 Family Fun Days 11am – 3pm, during the holidays on 6th and 13th August at St Andrews Church Hall, Sandhurst Road, Catford SE6 1XD. A coach trip to the seaside on 22nd August and a Day out in a local Park on 29th August.
All events are free, lunch and drinks will be provided. Children need to be accompanied by an adult aged 18 years or over.
If you are interested in any or all events please email [email protected] or come along to the first session on 6th August at 11am to register.

We are particularly relying on your help and support by:
Volunteering to be a helper at one of the events, for the day or part of the day.
Donating: Refreshments e.g. squash, juices, biscuits, crisps, fruit, pre-wrapped individual items.
Offering to run an activity on 6th or 13th, e.g. art/craft, pampering (for parents), Bingo, Disco.
Providing funds to support the venture.
First
Holy Communion 2020:
Application forms for preparation for First Reconciliation and Holy
Communion are now available at the back of the church, or on the parish
website. Closing date 9th September 2019.
Legion of Mary: The Legion of Mary from Lewisham will be holding
its meeting on Thursday, 25th 6:30pm in Holland room, Hartley Hall. All
parishioners who wish to become members of the Legion of Mary are warmly
invited to join them.
The Holiday Season: Many people will be going away on holiday. If
you are a reader or Lay Minister of Communion, please remember to plan ahead
and arrange a substitute for your absence. Many Thanks.

our sincere thanks to all engaged in the annual parish walk. Your loyal
support over the years is greatly valued. Without you so many of our children
would not have survived and developed. You are the ‘good news’ for our

Requiem Mass: Please pray for the peaceful repose of the
soul of Clifford Aristide. His Requiem Mass will be here on Thursday 25th
July at 12.30pm. Please also pray for
Catherine Ndeley whose funeral Mass will be on Friday 23 August at 12 noon. We also
pray for these families at this difficult time.

INTENTIONS:There are
envelopes available in the church to request for Masses for your loved ones
anniversaries, birthdays, get well wishes, exam success, thanksgiving and so
on.
Today’s Gospel Relection: The Story of Jesus in the home of Martha and
Mary complements the story of the Good Samaritan, which immediately precedes it
in Luke's Gospel. The Samaritan is an example of how a disciple should see and
act. Mary is an example of how a disciple should listen. Just as a Samaritan
would not be a model for neighbourliness, so a woman would not sit with the men
around the feet of a teacher. Both stories exemplify how a disciple is to
fulfill the dual command which begins chapter 10 - love of God (Mary) and love
of neighbour (the Samaritan). These are the two essentials of life in the
kingdom. By using the examples of a
Samaritan and a woman, however, Jesus is saying something more. Social codes
and boundaries were strict in Jesus' time.
Yet to love God with all one's heart and one's neighbour requires breaking
those rules.

Bible Verse to remember: Lord, who shall dwell on your holy
