Gospel reflection on Stewardship
In today’s Gospel, arguably the most important exchange in all of literature, Pilate asks Jesus: “What have you done?” Jesus replies that he testifies to the truth. In the second reading we are reminded of the essence of that truth: Christ, ruler of all, loves us, frees us from sin, makes us a new kingdom. As we approach the Advent season, this week would be a good time to reflect on the question: What have we done in our daily lives, in our actions, words, private prayer, and in our interaction with others, to testify that Jesus is Lord?
St Laurence’s Ecumenical Advent Carol Service takes place at 6pm December 2nd, followed by refreshments. All members of Holy Cross will be very welcome. Fr Antony will also be participating in the liturgy!
THANK YOU
…to everybody who supported the quiz night. The £350 raised will go towards UCM charities and pay for the New Year’s
Lunch for the housebound…
Spiritual preparation during Advent
Advent derives from the Latin adventus meaning ‘arrival’ or ‘approach’. For thousands of years the world waited for the coming of the Messiah to redeem and to save the human race, restoring mankind’s relationship to God. We, too, experience this same longing for the coming of Christ. Spiritually, we long for the coming of Christ into our hearts as the Holy Spirit draws us into ever deepening relationship with Him; we also long for Christ in his Second Coming.
Sacrament of Reconciliation: In our parish, every week we have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Confession from 6pm before the evening Mass on Saturdays.
Also, two days in this Advent we will have special liturgy to prepare for Confessions; and priests from other parishes will be available for hearing Confessions.
8th December at 10am [for the Holy Communion Children, their parents and for others], and 21st December at 7pm for everyone.

Special Fridays during Advent: In this season of Advent, we shall Mass at 9.15am followed by the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Adoration and Benediction. Each week there will be special themes for reflection:
7th December: The Patriarchs and Prophets
14th December: John the Baptist
21st December: The Virgin Mary
      All are welcome.
Please pray for Mary Butcher who died on 20th November 2018, aged 94yrs. In Ipswich.
Mary had been a parishioner for 60years. Her late husband was organist for 25 years until his death in 1963. Mary and Les helped set up the Catford C.F.M groups at Holy Cross. May she rest in Peace.
Jesus is not a King according to earthly ways…His reign is not to command, but to obey the Father, to give himself over to the Father, so that his plan of love and salvation may be brought to fulfilment”- Pope Francis.
Bible Verse to Remember: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven [Matthew 5:16].
