The next Altar Servers Club is at 4.30pm on Saturday 12th October 2019.  This is a great opportunity for new Altar Servers to join the team.  Children should be in Year Three or above and made their first Holy communion.  Our aim is to do our best, to serve with reverence, understanding and regularity, for the glory of God and our eternal salvation.

The Diamond Club is holding a free exhibition day on Saturday the 5th October 11am-4pm as part of the Catford Arts trail and Lewisham's creative ageing festival. Older people will be exhibiting their creative talents, quilting, mosaic making, knitting, needle craft, paintings, photography, jewellery and more. Also the fabulous Tai chi, cha, cha, cha class will be showcasing their dance routines.  All are welcome and you can have a go at some of the arts and crafts and the dances.  Also homemade cakes available.

Mass for the Canonisation of Blessed John Henry Newman & display of relic
There will be a diocesan Mass for the Canonisation of John Henry Newman at St George's Cathedral on Sunday 27th October at 11.30 am. The Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop John. All welcome.
In addition, a relic of John Henry Newman will be available for people to see and venerate from Sunday 6th October until Sunday 27th.

The Southwark Spirituality Commission will be hosting 'Your Word is Life' on Saturday 9th November 2019, 10.30 am - 3.30 pm at St John Fisher Catholic Church, Thanet Road, Bexley DA5 1AP: a day of prayer using scripture to awaken us to the presence of God.  Whether you are seeking to enhance your own prayer life or enable others in your congregation or community, this one-day workshop will equip you with a range of resources.

Month of Mission: Pope Francis has called the whole Church to observe an Extraordinary Month of Mission this October, asking us all to reflect upon bringing the Gospel to those who have not yet heard it and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. He has announced that, in October 2019, we are invited to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Pope Benedict XVʼs Apostolic Letter Maximum Illud on overseas mission. Parish Secretary Vacancy
We are looking to recruit a Parish Secretary, who could start in October.  This will initially be for a 6 month fixed term contract.  The role is to provide ongoing support and administration of the parish office; take responsibility for Hartley Hall bookings; operate the Diocese’s online accounting systems; liaise with volunteers and lay ministers; liaise with Holy Cross School. The ideal candidate will have previous secretarial experience and a good knowledge of the Catholic church.  Good communication skills at all levels and an excellent working knowledge of main IT products (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, etc) are essential.  Terms: 10 hours per week – actual hours/days to be mutually agreed; £10.00 per hour. Primary & Secondary School Applications
Please make sure you are aware of the deadlines for school applications (Secondary schools 31st October 2019 and primary schools 15th January 2020).  If you are applying to schools that require a supplementary form to be signed by Fr Antony (ie faith schools), please ensure only the supplementary form is brought to the parish office. The forms can be collected on every Friday during October (between 5pm – 7pm).  If this time isn’t any good, please contact Fr Antony.

Cafod - family fast day Friday 4th October   Cafod is the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales, we bring hope and compassion to poor communities, standing side by side with them to end poverty and injustice. This year family fast day falls on the 4th of October, would you be kind enough to have a simple meal and give the money you save to Cafod? Please fill in your details on the envelope provided during the masses and return it next week. Thank you for your prayers and generosity. If you would like give up some time and volunteer for Cafod please speak to Rachelle Thevathas, who will be speaking at all Masses this weekend.
