A Big Thank You to our team of catechists, who have
given up their time to help the children prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Thank you J.
THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of
Confirmation together constitute the "sacraments of Christian
initiation," whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the
faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for
the completion of baptismal grace. For "by the sacrament of
Confirmation”, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are
enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true
witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by
word and deed [CCC1285].
Patrick
Lynch was born on 27th April 1947 in Cork City, Ireland.
On leaving secondary school
he entered the novitiate of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and
Mary in Cootehill, Co. Cavan and made a profession of temporary vows in August
1965.
He studied Philosophy and
theology in the United States at the seminary run by the order. He graduated
with an M.A. in theology from Augustinian College, Washington, D.C. in 1971. A
short period teaching followed in the United
States after which he returned to Ireland to be ordained a priest in July 1972. In 1992 he was elected provincial of the
Irish -English province of the Congregation. In the course of his six years as
provincial he came in contact with the international dimension of the
Congregation in Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa.
He completed his term as
provincial in 1998 and came to the Archdiocese of Southwark. His ministry and
involvement there with many different migrant communities led to his
appointment to the mission commission of the Congregation in the year 2000.
Since 2000 he has served as Episcopal Vicar for religious within the
Archdiocese. In 2003 he was appointed parish priest of St.Chad's, South
Norwood.
