Holy Cross does all it can to support the terminally ill and their families and carers as well as those who have suffered the loss of a loved one.
The St Joseph team a small group of parishioners who have received some awareness training via St Christopher’s hospice can visit people and explore people’s wishes and arrangements for when they die.
These arrangements can be kept in the parish and used with family to plan funerals and ensure people’s wishes are upheld. The St Joseph team can also signpost people to areas of further support if required,
Following a bereavement the St Joseph team keep in touch with family by sending a card and arrange for a Mass on or around the first anniversary of a person’s death.
In early November a special St Joseph weekend is set aside to remember those who have died in the parish during that year. A candle is lit for them all and they are prayed for during each of the weekend Masses.
