Vision Statement for St. Paul’s Council

To form a parish where every member—child, youth, and adult—grows as a lifelong disciple of Christ, rooted in the truth of the Gospel and radiant with the joy of the Catholic faith. Through dynamic catechesis, intentional formation we envision a community where faith is deepened, sacraments are cherished, and all are equipped to live and share the beauty of God’s Word in their homes, workplaces, and the world.

The Ten Missions of St. Paul’s Council:
Guiding Catechesis and Formation at Holy Cross Parish
St. Paul’s Council fulfils its sacred duty to nurture lifelong faith formation through ten core missions. Rooted in the Church’s teachings, these missions aim to equip parishioners of all ages to grow in knowledge, love and service of Christ.
1. Mission: Train and Certify Catechists
“Teach these things to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.” (2 Timothy 2:2)
To identify, train and certify catechists through parish workshops, online modules and diocesan courses (including Archbishop’s certificates), ensuring skilled leaders for sacramental preparation.
2. Mission: Unify Catechetical Vision
“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit.” (Ephesians 4:3)
To create a cohesive vision for all parish catechetical programmes, aligning content and methods with Church teaching and parish priorities.
3. Mission: Plan Sacramental Preparation Ahead
“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost?” (Luke 14:28)
To publish annual calendars with clear dates for sacramental programmes (Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, RCIA), ensuring families have ample time to prepare.
4. Mission: Nurture Lifelong Faith Formation
“Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord.” (2 Peter 3:18)
To provide ongoing formation for:
-
Parents after Baptism
-
Children after First Communion
-
Youth after Confirmation
-
Adults post-RCIA
-
Newlyweds through dedicated retreats

5. Mission: Host Inspirational Seminars
“Wisdom is proved right by all her children.” (Luke 7:35)
To organise two annual seminars (Lent/Advent) with renowned speakers, hosted in church or online. Include post-Mass discussions and YouTube-based study groups.
6. Mission: Develop Parish Catechetical Resources
“Your word is a lamp to my feet.” (Psalm 119:105)
To create parish-specific materials, including:
-
Sunday catechesis textbooks
-
Advent/Lent reflection booklets (written by parishioners)
-
Guides for Stations of the Cross

7. Mission: Share Church Teachings Regularly
“Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season.” (2 Timothy 4:2)
To publish monthly newsletter inserts explaining Catholic doctrine, sacraments and moral teachings in accessible language.
8. Mission: Create a Parish Spiritual Calendar
“There is a time for everything under heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
To design a yearly Bible diary/calendar with feast days, catechetical dates, and parish events, helping families integrate faith into daily life.
9. Mission: Welcome and Integrate New Parishioners
“Welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you.” (Romans 15:7)
To host three annual welcome meetings and church tours, introducing newcomers to ministries, sacraments and parish life.
10. Mission: Safeguard All in Christ’s Name
“Protect the little ones who believe in me.” (Matthew 18:6)
To ensure every parishioner understands safeguarding duties through training sessions, clear policies and regular reminders in parish communications.
