Holy Orders Priesthood & Diaconate
Holy Orders is a sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church. It consists of three degrees: bishops, priests, and deacons. The sacrament is conferred through the laying on of hands and a prayer of consecration, asking God to grant the ordinand the graces of the Holy Spirit for their ministry. Through this sacrament, men are consecrated and deputed to serve the Church in teaching, sanctifying, and governing, thereby nourishing the People of God.
Prayer for Priestly and Religious Vocations
O Divine Master, Author of all holiness,
ignite in hearts the flame of faith,
that young souls may hear Your tender call
and answer, “Here I am, Lord; send me!” (Is 6:8).
Through the intercession of Mary, Immaculate Mother,
Mold servants after Your Sacred Heart:
shepherds to bear the fragrance of Christ (2 Cor 2:15),
and apostles to proclaim mercy’s song.
Grant courage to forsake all for the Kingdom,
purity to mirror Heaven’s light,
and humility to kneel, like Francis,
before the wounded and the poor.
May the Eucharist be their strength,
and the Church, their pride and joy.
Send labourers, O Lord (Lk 10:2),
to gather souls into Your eternal harvest.
Amen.
