The God Who Speaks: Year of the Word

·        The five books of Moses are collectively called the Pentateuch
·        Genesis contains mention of famous biblical figures including Adam (1-3), Noah (4-9), Abraham (10-25:18), Isaac (25:19-35:29) and Jacob (36-50)
·        Everything is grounded on God’s creation of people in his own image.
o   God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness.” (Gen. 1:26)
o   So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Gen. 1:27)
o   When God created humankind, he made them in the likeness of God. (Gen. 5:1)

Bible Quiz – Genesis

2.     When Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, who were saved?
3.     Who was the oldest man in the Bible, how many years did he live for?

Gospel Reflection
In today’s Gospel, part of his Sermon on the Mount, Jesus does not speak of replacing the law of the Old Testament. He goes beyond it. He obliges his followers to work at being holier than even the strictest of Pharisees. But the work is not accomplished by following a religious “law”, it requires growing in love for other human beings. Followers of Jesus know they are required to be good stewards of others. In what way will you exercise good stewardship over other people this week?
Bible Verse to remember:
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”
Meet Fr Antony
without an appointment on Monday and Tuesday immediately after 9.15am Mass.

Holy Cross Parish Food/Household Items Bank – Second Sundays
A big thank you to all the generous people who donated, and those who took items. As well as what was taken from the porches, we were able to give bags of goods  to two people known to SVP, a small local food bank and a homeless hostel. Please spread the word to anyone you know who may benefit, and next month feel free to take items for your friends or neighbours who may be in need as we all need help sometimes, and you may know someone locally. Thank you.  Any ideas, suggestions and offers of help
(young people very welcome)
